Masa Israel Teaching Fellows

10-Month Program

Program  Description

Masa Israel Teaching Fellows (MITF) is a 10-month immersive experience designed for participants who want to build a meaningful life in Israel while making a real impact in local communities. Fellows teach English in public schools and live in Israeli neighborhoods, becoming part of daily life through work, relationships, and cultural engagement. Rather than simply visiting, participants integrate into their surroundings — navigating transportation, celebrating holidays, and forming lasting connections with students, coworkers, and neighbors.

Program  Overview

The program takes place in Haifa, Netanya, Be’er Sheva, and Jerusalem, where participants teach English in public schools approximately 20–25 hours per week. Fellows live in shared apartments in residential neighborhoods and experience Israel through everyday routines, from shopping at local markets to commuting like residents. No Hebrew is required, and language skills develop naturally through immersion.

Teachers Track  vs. Fellows Track

Fellows Track

Designed for participants without formal teaching certification who want to gain classroom experience while living in Israel. Fellows support English instruction, work alongside Israeli teachers, and build confidence in communication, leadership, and working with students. Participants on this track receive a monthly stipend of 2,000 NIS.

Teachers Track

Designed for participants who studied education and hold teaching certification. Participants take on more advanced responsibilities in the classroom, contribute to lesson planning and instruction, and apply their professional training in an international school setting. Participants on this track receive a monthly stipend of 3,000 NIS.

Professional Experience

Teaching in Israeli classrooms provides hands-on experience in education, leadership, and cross-cultural communication. Participants work alongside local educators, support students’ language development, and gain valuable international professional experience.

Community & Cultural Immersion

Living and working within Israeli communities allows participants to form authentic relationships and gain a deeper understanding of society and culture. Fellows celebrate holidays, attend local events, and share everyday experiences that create a strong sense of belonging and connection.

Exploring Israel

Throughout the program, fellows take part in organized trips and travel days across Israel, giving them the opportunity to explore the country’s landscapes, history, and diverse communities. These experiences deepen cultural understanding while allowing participants to connect with one another outside of the classroom and create lasting memories.

Living Essentials & Support

Participants live in shared apartments and receive housing, health insurance, and ongoing support throughout the program. Staff guidance, onboarding, and structured support help fellows adjust smoothly to life and work in Israel.

Professional Development & Masa Experience

Participants take part in teaching workshops, Hebrew classes (Ulpan), and cultural programming. Trips, seminars, and group activities connect fellows to the broader Masa community and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth.

About  Our Locations

jerusalem:

The city where past and present meet. Established over 3,000 years ago, the city of Jerusalem offers you the chance to literally reach out and touch the past. Known as the city of gold, Jerusalem is a magical mix of ancient and modern, where outdoor shuks (markets) rub shoulders with gleaming office towers. The city’s most popular spots include a vibrant downtown with world-class restaurants and shopping, and the Old City, a maze of winding alleyways and colorful markets enclosed by walls dating back to the 16th century.

Be’er Sheva:

Be’er Sheva  is known as the capital of the Negev Desert. Located at the northern tip of the Negev Desert, Be’er Sheva is also one of Israel’s fastest growing cities. Home to Soroka Hospital, which serves as the central hospital of the region and provides medcial services to approximately one million residents of the South. Be’er Sheva has a large student population from Ben Gurion University and a vibrant culture for young adults. With the vibrant culture for young adults, the area around the university has a college town feel, filled with entertaining nightlife. Be’er Sheva also has a large immigrant population and many Bedouin communities in the nearby areas making it a hub for coexistence.

Netanya

Located only 30 minutes north of Tel Aviv, Netanya serves as a vital social and economic link between the northern and southern parts of Israel. Netanya is home to many start-ups and hi-tech companies. Immigrants make up 35% of the population, mostly coming from France and Ethiopia.
With its seemingly never-ending promenades, Netanya’s nine miles of white sand beaches, wild cliffs, and green parks rank among the most beautiful in the world.

haifa

Haifa is Israel’s third largest city and one of its most beautiful and multicultural. Haifa has gorgeous beaches, scenic views from Mount Carmel, and forests perfect for hiking. It is the home of the magnificent Bahai Gardens and Temple, theaters, concert halls, restaurants, and museums. Two of Israels leading universities, the University of Haifa and the Technion, are located in Haifa, giving the city a vibrant student life and lively nightlife. While living in the cultural hub of northern Israel, check out Haifa’s four amazing beaches or catch a lift on the Carmelit Subway, Israel’s only underground subway system.
